Nothing Vs. Something

We see it all around us everyday. People doing one of two things. Nothing, or something. The world is filled with people who are too lazy to stand up for what they believe in and fight for what is right. However there are also people who do stand up for their beliefs and people who do fight for what is right.

The writer’s strike recently ended which undoubtedly made people happy but throughout these past months I kept thinking the same thing. Why can’t more people be like them? They were wronged and decided not to stand for it.

Ever since the “War on terror” started Bush has been criticized for it. And I still can’t think of how this could be. Now sure Bush has had his moments but to be criticized for the war is ludicrous. I was in 5th grade on 9/11. I don’t remember a lot about it but I do remember just how afraid I was. And I refuse to believe that anyone else would have just sat there and not went to war. Could things have been done differently? Sure. But Bush is doing what he believes is right and he continues to do so even when a lot of people blatantly disagree with him. That’s something that takes a lot of guts to do.

I have a friend who, even though they clearly need some form of counseling, refuses to do so. Even with people around trying to help they refuse to listen.

See doing something is a lot better than doing nothing even if doing something doesn’t always end well. Because in the end doing nothing will put us in the exact same place as we started but doing something, whatever that something may be, will at least get us somewhere.

Mathew 28:19 – Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

It’s all about that. Are we all literally going to baptize someone? Probably not. But we’re called to do something to make this world a better place. And I don’t know about you but I know that doing nothing is not going to get us anywhere.
