Seven new sins…wait what?!?!?

So if you haven’t heard which I am sure you all have.  The Vatican seven new sins or as they called them the 7 Social sins.   Now I’ve just recently looked at the list of these 7 new sins and something doesn’t sit well with me.  But first let’s run down the list first.

1. “Bioethical” violations such as birth control

So the first one.  Basically in a nutshell.  Don’t have an abortion.  Which sounds just fine I mean if you’re like me you believe that having an abortion is murder than sure this is valid.  The thing that gets me is maybe they should have other examples of what Bioethical violations are.  I’m going to guess another may be plastic surgery?  Hard to tell though.

2. “Morally dubious” experiments such as stem cell research

This is another interesting one.  I personally don’t know a lot about stem cell research but I know that I don’t think cloning anything is a good thing.

3. Drug abuse

This is simple.  Our body = a temple.  Drug abuse is destroying our body or temple and thus is doing something we were told not to do in the Bible itself.

4. Polluting the environment

If you know me well.  You know how much I think global warming is a bunch of crap.  But this again makes sense.  Adam was even told to watch over the Earth.  Polluting = bad.

5. Contributing to widening divide between rich and poor

This one confuses me to no end.  What in the world do they mean by this?  I mean they can’t possibly be saying that if you have one of the best paying jobs around that you are sinning?  I mean you worked very hard to get that.  Now if they say something like stealing then sure that’s a sin.  But then if you look at #7 then I’d say that is referring to stealing.

6. Excessive wealth

This one irks me.  There are people out there who have a lot of money.  And a lot of those people start their own organizations and funds to help other people.  They are very wealthy….but are they sinning?

7. Creating poverty

I’m going to guess that this is basically just stealing in which case then yeah this makes sense.

So there are the “new” 7.  But didn’t you notice something?  First of all and most important these ARE NOT NEW!  It makes me so mad when I’ve watched the news these past days and it’s like well there are 7 new things that we can’t do now.  Let’s think about this for a second.  If you want to take these seven and narrow them down to what they really are then anyone can easily see that these are things that we have been told not to do by God.

These “new” sins have been around since the beginning of time!  Let’s start with #1

1.)  If you narrow it down it is basically either killing through abortion, harming, or trying to “perfect” your body.  Body=temple.  Trying to change or destroy that.  Bad.

2.)  Morally dubious experiments back in Biblical times could easily have been classified as the people who had sex with animals or with the same gender.  Again we’ve known that this was bad.

3.)  Again, harming your body/temple.  It’s bad and we’ve known for a very long time.

4.)  We were told to be protectors of the Earth.  And so we’ve known that polluting is bad.

5.)  If we went the stealing route then yes we know it’s a sin.

6.)  Now if they mean by this that if you are hogging your wealth and not sharing to help out others then well I’m still not sure if that’s a sin.  I mean if you have a lot of money but don’t help others with it and keep it to yourself is that a sin?  You did earn the money.  And by helping you’re just being nice.  But if your not being nice then you’re being mean and I could break it down farther but I’d say in the end it would probably be considered a sin.  Something we’ve still known about for a long time.

7.  Stealing = bad, again we know.

As you see the point I’m trying to make is these are not new.  These are the same sins we’ve known for a long time.  Why do we have to get in such an uproar about seven new sins that aren’t even new?  Also for future reference.  We can not and I mean CAN NOT just up and create new sins!

  1. The one that really call my attention is the NO.6 ” Excessive wealth ” I believe The Vatican is EXCESSIVE WEALTH!, or at what income you can be consider excessive wealth?

  2. favorited this one, man

  3. Hey thanks! 😀

  4. At the risk of causing an uproar, the “Roman” catholic church has no right to cast aspersions. First of all, real Christianity teaches that government should come from inside man not outside hence the 10 commandments, Christ’s teachings etc. The Roman catholic church preaches an “outside” governmental system where men control other men. In essence, institutionalised slavery. Why else would they have a “Pope” or “Pontifice maximus” as he’s refered to (and so was Ceaser), cardinals, bishops and other governmental offices. This alone *IS* a real sin.
The word ‘catholic” means “universal” Christ never preached for a “universal” church. In his own words, “I came *only* for the Children of Israel”. He saying this to the Canaanite woman at the well. This doesn’t mean he came only for the jews, it means all 13 tribes (yes 13 not 12. Joseph went into captivity but had 2 sons which Jacob [Israel] adopted) which are still on this earth. BTW, Christ never mentioned allowing the Romans to create a church to rule over the Children of Israel.
For a real eye openner, buy a book called
The Babalonian mystery religion” if it’s still in print and read it. It’s not a very big book but there’s enough to clue you in to what’s going on. There’s an uncanny resemblance between the Babalonian mystery religion and the Roman catholic church. They both have a female intercessor (Mary for the RCC and Simoramus for BMR), they both have child saviours (the christ child for the RCC and Tamus for BMR) and they both have their panthion of lessor gods (the RCC with their saints and the BMR with theirs). They both felt or feel the need to control men instead of getting men to control themselves (this lIst of new sins is a good example) and they both promote a socialist type of government (this list being a good example for the RCC). There are other similarities that link the two, too many for this to be just a coincidence.
This is not to say that many catholics are not Christians or living by the faith, it’s simply an observation to get people thinking about where they’re getting their theologies and agendas from.
